Mel's Sunflower Ruby Engagement Ring Commission
Steve came to me with an idea for a Sunflower engagement ring. Both he and his fiancée are heavily involved with the environment and he wanted something to reflect their love of nature. He also wanted the central stone to be a ruby for her birthstone. As Mel is quite active, hands on with lots of organisations and has a young family we decided that a fully opened sunflower would be impractical.
I sketched out a few ideas looking at a sunflower that was just opening and would therefore have less extremities to catch on anything. I then sourced a selection of beautiful rubies for Steve to select from. He decided on a twig textured shank in platinum with handmade 18ct gold petals holding the ruby in place. To reflect his Welsh roots I also included a small piece of Welsh gold in the form of 2 leaves on the shoulders, with curling tendrils and set with a tiny diamond in each. Welsh gold is extremely difficult to source, but I was lucky enough to make contact with a gentleman who has the rights to an old disused mine and he provided some pure Welsh gold, which I processed into a usable 18ct alloy. Unlike larger producers I can be honest about the exact amount of Welsh gold included as I produced the alloy myself in my Chester jewellery workshop.
Prices given are just a starting guide. All commissions will be quoted for individually and I can work to your preferred budget.
